Hire a microphone
Choose the right microphone
Microphones have one function, to pick up sound and transmit it to a sound system or speaker so that it can be heard more clearly by more people over a larger area. But just because the function is the same for all microphones, it doesn’t mean that all microphones are equally good for all occasions. When renting a microphone, as with any other technology, it’s important to choose the right product for your purpose and your event.
Centas offers three different categories of microphones in its rental range. These are traditional handheld microphones, headmikes and lavalier microphones.
Different techniques in microphones
Within each category, there are of course different varieties of microphones and technologies. Two of the most common variants are dynamic and condenser microphones.
Dynamic microphones
Dynamic microphones are a type of microphone that primarily capture sounds that are right in front of them, while filtering out ambient sounds. This allows you to capture and pick up the most important sound and let it go out into speakers and sound systems.
Condenser microphones
Condenser microphones are a type of microphone that tries to mimic our own ears. The microphone captures sound more broadly than dynamic microphones, creating a depth of sound. They are suitable, for example, for studio environments where there are no distracting ambient sounds, but rather where you want to capture all the sound in the room.
Traditional microphones
Traditional handheld microphones are often superior when it comes to delivering good sound quality.
When sound is particularly important, for example in live performances and recordings, a handheld microphone is often used. They have the great advantage that they can be aimed at a specific sound source and filter out surrounding sounds, which are often unwanted noise in the context. For example, at a live performance, you want the vocals of the performer to be heard and at the same time you want to muffle the singing or applause from the audience.
These microphones are often a bit more robust and can withstand a bit more abuse compared to, for example, mosquitoes.

Wireless microphone rental
Wireless microphones are often requested, which is usually appreciated by the person using the microphone. Keeping track of where the cord is or almost tripping over it is something everyone wants to avoid during a presentation. Centas has wireless variants in all categories of microphones and it is usually what we recommend when we put together a package to rent a microphone.
Mosquitoes – Lavalier microphones
Lavalier microphones are also known as “mosquitoes”. They are microphones that you can wear without having to hold them in your hand, they are usually attached with a small clip on the collar. The big advantage is that you are freer in your presentation or performance, and the sound is good enough for participants at an event to clearly hear what the speaker is saying.
Headmikes
Headmikes also provide a great freedom of movement, you have your hands free while what you say reaches the audience. Headmikes are attached around the head and thus sit very close to the mouth, which provides a stable sound recording. Headmikes are less affected by movement and distance than mosquitoes because they are always in place right by the mouth.
They can also be as good or better than traditional microphones at filtering out ambient noise because they sit so close to the mouth.
